peace. love. & happiness.

yesterday could have been an easy cookiecutter sunday.
instead, it was a difficult unique sunday. letmetellya.

so the morning started out with worship team practice - something i've done for a long period of my life. really routine. and then i taught the 3-4-5 year olds sunday school at 9:30. i had about 3 new kids, still didn't know the names of half my class. although, i've developed favorites :) after that, i proceeded to join the youth at 11:00 for announcements. but i realized i feel like i don't fit in anymore. so i went to college sunday school. had lunch with my dad, which was already interesting since it's kinda rare we're in good enough moods to tolerate each other for a sit-down meal not in front of the telly. at home, shauna calls. we're going to hang out. alright, i go pick her up. and here is where the story really begins. i take a highway exit and i see a man with a sign. "NEED A JOB & HUNGRY." he pulled my heart strings at that moment. at the bottom, the sign read, "peace, love, and happiness." for some reason, i didn't keep driving along in my car, thankful for the A/C and built-in radio. i was actually sympathetic towards him, standing out there in the heat. so i rolled down my window, "would you like me to buy you something you eat?" he replies, "you can do anything you want, ma'am." i tell him i'll be back and continue the route to shauna's. i call her on the way and tell her we have a 'mission'. sure that i had left her wondering the context of this 'mission', i sped over to her house. i pick her up and go to the QT in the vicinity of the man holding the sign. i grab a cold sandwich, an apple, and a huge bottle of water. then i go to the counter and buy a $20 gift card to the place. 24 dollars and some odd cents for a jobless, hungry man. so i go to my car, wrote john 3:16 on the gift card. then i went to wave him down to come get the goodies i bought him. i told him, i'd pray for him and that there'd be better times. i got his name and where he came from. then two guys came up, stamped with white pride tattoos and started harassing him. they claimed he told them off when they tried to help him. they started cussing and making advances like they were going to beat him up. shauna and i were backing up as this all happened. the guys even told us 'ladies' to get in the car and apologized for their cussing. so i'm halfway back in my car when the guys start to get serious about fighting him in the parking lot. i ask shauna, "shauna. should i call 911?" she just sits there, watching them in some sort of shock. "SHAUNA. SHOULD I CALL 911?!" she tells me yes and i dial those three digits. now, in my dreams, i can never find the 1 key on my phone so i freak out. but this time, the call went through. and i told the 911 operator on the line what happened. he asked for my name and number and told me police were on the way. i asked him if i had to stay and wait for the police to come, but he told me i didn't have to. so i left, and as i drive across the road, i saw the cop car pull up. i'm not really sure as to what happened to the man afterwards. all the men involved had vacated the location. we were so shaken up afterwards. this was a simple trip to the mall to get sunglasses. red ones, at that. and it became a huge good samaritan effort which could have turned bad. there are some parts i left out that aren't important and do not want to disclose.

anyhow. i am fine. shauna is fine. we continued on the trip to the mall for red sunglasses, with no avail. however, we stumbled upon some interesting guys in barnes and noble. that kinda turned the day around. but anyways, that's all, folks.

aw this story makes me happy, minus the creepy, rude guys. it was so sweet of you to take the time out of your day to stop and help that man. i always feel the same way you did when i pass a person in need. sorry about the traumatic event towards the end, but it was totally a deed that didn't go unnoticed. (: (:
